OTTAWA, Ont., May 3, 2000: The Members of the Supreme Court of Canada will be holding their annual retreat in St. John’s Newfoundland on May 5th and 6th. Each year, members of the Court set aside some time to discuss matters relating to the administration of the Supreme Court of Canada. This year, in conjunction with their own meeting, the judges will meet with the Chief Justice of Newfoundland, the Honourable Clyde Wells, and other members of the Newfoundland judiciary.
Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin stated “The Court is very much looking forward to the opportunity to meet and discuss legal issues with the judges of Newfoundland. Our meetings with the Manitoba judges last year were very productive and I am sure that this year’s meetings will be equally constructive, both for the judges of Newfoundland and the judges of the Supreme Court of Canada.”

OTTAWA (Ont.), 3 mai 2000: Les juges de la Cour suprême du Canada tiendront leur retraite annuelle à St. John’s (Terre-Neuve), les 5 et 6 mai. Chaque année, les juges prennent le temps de discuter des questions concernant l’administration de la Cour suprême du Canada. Cette année, nos juges auront également l’occasion de rencontrer le Juge en chef de Terre-Neuve, l’honorable Clyde Wells, et d’autres membres de la magistrature de cette province.
Le juge en chef Beverley McLachlin a affirmé: «Nous avons bien hâte de rencontrer les juges de Terre-Neuve et de discuter avec eux de questions touchant le droit. Les rencontres que nous avons eues, l’an dernier, avec les juges du Manitoba ont été très profitables et je suis persuadée que celles que nous aurons cette année seront tout aussi constructives, à la fois pour les juges de Terre-Neuve et pour ceux de la Cour suprême du Canada.»
