OTTAWA, December 22, 2008 – The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, Chief Justice of Canada, welcomes the appointment by Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Mr. Justice Thomas Cromwell to the Supreme Court of Canada. “Justice Cromwell is a judge of the highest ability, integrity and intellect”, said Chief Justice McLachlin. “In addition to his vast experience on the Bench, he also brings a profound understanding of the role and the challenges of the Supreme Court. I look forward to the contribution of this distinguished jurist to the work of the Court.”
Justice Cromwell, who sat as a judge of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, will be sworn in as a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada on a date to be announced.

OTTAWA, le 22 décembre 2008 – La très honorable Beverley McLachlin, juge en chef du Canada, se réjouit de la nomination par le premier ministre Stephen Harper du juge Thomas Cromwell à la Cour suprême du Canada. « Le juge Cromwell est un magistrat du plus haut niveau de compétence, d’intégrité et d’intelligence », a déclaré la juge en chef McLachlin. « En plus de sa vaste expérience de magistrat, il apporte une profonde compréhension du rôle de la Cour suprême et des défis qu’elle doit relever. J’attends avec intérêt la contribution que cet éminent juriste apportera aux travaux de la Cour. »
Le juge Cromwell, qui a siégé à la Cour d’appel de la Nouvelle-Écosse, prêtera serment comme juge de la Cour suprême du Canada à une date encore indéterminée.
